Giraffes drinking at a waterhole in Etosha
Wow, 2014 is just flying by ...
... and the year has been truly a busy one. We started off with our Educationals and it was a huge disappointment that we had so few participants this year. Therefore we decided to take a break from the trips in 2015. We will commence with the trips again in 2016, and we are convinced that we will be able to offer some exciting new routes to you. We attended the first ever WTM Africa, which was held in Cape Town on 02 and 03 May. This was a wellorganised event and we will be attending this again in the future. We also attended the Indaba in Durban again.
Namibia Tourism Expo took place at the Windhoek Show Grounds from 04 to 07 June 2014 and again we had a successful show. The Trade Evening was well visited by all and a huge Thank You goes out to the team from Catamaran Charters, who supplied the catering for the evening. Towards the end of the year the main happenings on our side are the HTTF and the Swakopmund Workshop, which takes place on Friday, 05.12.2014 Katja and I will be on a lodge inspection trip from 10.12. until 14.12., where we will be visiting our new additions in the North-West! Feedback will follow in January.
The Finesse office will close for the holidays as follows: 16.12.2014 – 06.01.2015. Steffie will be reachable by cellphone throughout this period.

FORT SESFONTEIN LODGE
As from 1 July 2014 Fort Sesfontein joined our portfolio. The lodge FORT SESFONTEIN was rebuilt out of the ruins of a historical Monument from the year 1896. The district KAOKOVELD in those days needed a checkpoint to control cattle disease, smuggling and illegal hunting on elephants and rhinos and the Schutztruppe agreed to help the local population, the Namas, Hereros, Damaras and Bushman. The Fort was abandoned in 1914 and only ruins showed this early sign of wild life- and nature conservation.
Today comfortable accommodation and excellent bar and restaurant service is available to up to 44 guests. Located in an arid area between Damaraland and Kaokoveld it however offers an Oasis with the palm tree courtyard and the enormous pool. The whole year day trips in open or closed 4x4 jeeps take place, where you can discover African wild life in free range with desert-adapted elephants, rhinos and lions, visit Himba tribes in their villages or see old rock carvings at Sosos showing wild life from over 1000 years ago.
OPUWO COUNTRY LODGE & UUKWALUUDHI SAFARI LODGE
These 2 lodges joined us on 1 October 2014. Please be advised that Uukwaluudhi Safari Lodge will be closed from 01.12.2014 until 28.02.2015 as the anticipated numbers of bookings were not achieved. All bookings will be moved over to Opuwo Country Lodge during this period.
Please be advised that they have revised their rates validity for 2016 to the following: 01.03.2016 – 31.10.2016
FRANS INDONGO LODGE
6 Bungalows and the 2 single rooms were completely renovated with new furniture and decor. The bathrooms received a new layout and were also completely renovated. As from middle January 2015 the rest of the rooms will be renewed. The lapa, restaurant and bar will also be redecorated.
During June and September the house keeping ladies recevied intensive training to guarantee our high standard.
Kitchen Upgrade – The kitchen will be upgraded to facilitate a new, modern and professional environment for our chef and his team, to give our guests the chance to experience the ultimate culinary taste adventure. Therefore the restaurant “On the Edge”, as well as the banqueting venues will be closed from 15 December 2014 until 28 February 2015.
Our guest rooms will remain available throughout the upgrade period, and breakfast will be served in the Palm View lapa.
During the upgrade you are welcome to enjoy lunch or dinner on our terrace with its amazing views over the city. You will be able to beat the summer heat with refreshing drinks or tantalizing sundowners, as well as a small variety of dishes prepared to your satisfaction.
“Dear Finesse - Another year came to an end and what a successful year it was for Kupferquelle Resort. We had a high occupancy, due to the successful marketing campaign for 2014 which puts Kupferquelle way above our expectations.
We did not start building this year, due to unforeseen circumstances. We will start the construction of the 20 new standard chalets, as well as a second swimming pool at the chalets for the guests’ privacy early in 2015. Our convenience store and Vintage Salon will be enlarged and a modern gym will also still be built. Another restaurant will be built and we are also going to enlarge our laundry and add a new dry cleaner for the public and a possible new Hotel School. We are already busy upgrading our camp sites, and we are still going to add additional ablution blocks for our campers convenience. Necessary steps will be taken to prevent any disturbances to our guests.
We would like to wish all the best for the Finesse team for their future business ventures. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!!
From Kierie & Elize Bruwer and Kupferquelle Team”

NAMTIB DESERT LODGE
As 2014’s end draws nearer, NAMTIB can look back over an eventful and successful year. We wish to take this opportunity to thank you all for the stunning support over the past season and trust that we can confidently look forward to future seasons, albeit facing challenges which we have to face and overcome – something which can be achieved if all of us involved in tourism join forces in maintaining and intensifying the promotion of Namibia as a safe and affordable travel destination.
In line with our own approach and philosophy, this year saw the building of a longer hiking trail (±5hrs). This provides our guests with another self-guided opportunity to get closer to our environment and explore the beauty of the Tiras Mountains at a leisurely pace. The trail also doubles up as a mountain bike trail for the more adventurous clients; however, this is aimed more at the local market, since we do not provide mountain bikes for hire. A big technical change has also come to NAMTIB: in May this year we have installed a photovoltaic power plant in line with our environmental objectives and resulting in the fact that now our guests can truly enjoy absolute silence. Thanks to new IT equipment, we can now also offer WI-FI to our guests. This is not provided free of charge and we charge a small once off fee of N$ 10,- for unlimited access, something which has already provided food for thought for some of our clients, who would otherwise just sit on the internet instead of enjoying their surroundings, if WI-FI were freely available.
On the commercial front the biggest change has been the fact that we have moved our banking business to First National Bank. Most of you have already changed the details in your accounting system, thank you! For those of you, who haven’t received the new details yet, here they are:
- Account Holder: Namtib Enterprises CC
- Bank: First National Bank of Namibia
- Branch: Lüderitzbucht / Branch Code: 280371
- Account No.: 6225 167 9464
- SWIFT Code: FIRN NA NX
- BIC Code: /280371
Please note that NAMTIB will close for our annual holiday/renovation break next year as from 28 May 2015 until 04 July 2015. All administrative tasks will be attended to as normal during this period. We once more thank you all for your continuous support and wish you a blessed upcoming festive season.
Kindest regards from the whole NAMTIB Team, Linn & Thorsten
